ACTING FOR THE CAMERA--FALL 2024 STANDALONE WORKSHOP

Applications for the 2024-2025 yearlong Acting for the Camera program are no longer available. We are now offering additional standalone ten-week workshops modeled after the yearlong program’s workshops.

You can now apply for the following standalone workshop:

THE FALL QUARTER ACTING FOR THE CAMERA STANDALONE WORKSHOP*

COURSE DATES & TIMES

Mondays, 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm Pacific Time

On campus at UCLA

(Start) Monday, September 30

(End) Monday, December 2

This course will meet 10 times over a ten-week period. (Please note that class is scheduled to take place on Indigenous People’s Day, and Veteran’s Day.)

Students must be 21 years or older to participate in this workshop.

This class is limited to 16 students.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

In this abbreviated version of our yearlong Acting for the Camera program, students will spend ten weeks learning introductory techniques for acting on camera for film and television comedies, dramas and sci-fi/fantasies, as well as self-tape audition techniques.

This class uses simple, non-moving, single and two-camera setups. Instruction takes place in our small acting studio (the same room we use for our yearlong Acting for the Camera program) not on a sound stage. Focus is on the actor’s craft, not the product—which means recordings are not designed or intended to be used for student reels. (Students will be required to provide their own SD card to record and study their footage.)

COURSE SCHEDULE

Week 1 (Audition Techniques)

Weeks 2, 3 and 4 (Drama)

Weeks 5, 6 and 7 (Comedy)

Weeks 8 and 9 (Fantasy and Sci-Fi)

Week 10 (Perform best scenes for feedback from special industry guest**)

PLEASE NOTE

*Our short, ten-week, standalone workshops do not apply toward a yearlong certificate.

**Special guests participate in our classes for feedback and informational purposes only. They may be working actors, directors or producers, but they are not here to offer students industry opportunities—only insights and career strategies based on their own industry experiences.
